The Cornell Tech Music Box | Feb 2024

Collaborator: Jou-An Chen, Shu-Wei Hsu, Tingrui Zhang

Overview

The project we created is a Cornell Tech themed music box. As the music plays, a red bus (a symbol of Roosevelt Island) circles the miniature campus. I led this project and took charge of building the spinning components, the box, and some decorative elements (e.g., the trees), while my teammates focused on modeling the three campus buildings.

Design and Planning

The box's rounded corners require a bendable box side, so I applied a flexible pattern to achieve this. A spinning component is attached to the music box mechanism. With the spinning arm holding a magnet, the magnet will circle and guide the bus. The bottom of the red bus has an arc part and another magnet holder. This ensures the bus follows the track while circling and always faces the right direction.
